is located in a Private Nature Reserve that takes care of 400 hectares of Atlantic rainforest by the Parana River.
We can walk trails in dense forest to seek birds of the undergrowth story or remain in the gardens for better chances to see birds of the upper story.
There is also a viewpoint of the Paraná River that ends at the canopy level, standing as a remarkable lookout to wait for birds.
The guides specialized in bird watching have a special permit from the Protected Area to carry out bird watching on this jungle trail before opening hours to the general public.
We can enter the Area from 05:30 a.m. in summer or 6:30 a.m. in winter (for birding it is advisable to start as early as possible, especially in summer, when bird activity is low in the midday hours).
After visiting the Macuco trail, we can have lunch at one of the several options within the Falls Area and walk the Falls trails in the afternoon.
Birdwatching guides are allowed to stay on the upper circuit after the trail closes, which gives good opportunities to observe toucans, flocks of White-eyed parakeets in flight towards their roosts on the islands of the Upper Iguazú River, and the congregations of hudreds of Great Dusky Swifts before rushing towards the walls behind the waterfalls (the latter is especially recommended in winter months when the swifts cannot be observed in the middle of the day).
The birdwatcher's guides have a special permit from the Iguazú National Park to carry out bird watching on the trail between the Timbó Park Ranger’s Station and the Iguazú River, which has a jungle environment and is not open to the general public.
It is quite likely that during the entire time we spend on the trail, we will only pass a group of cyclists or nobody at all. The trail extends 1.5 km one way and 1.5 km on the way back.
We can also travel Route 101, a red dirt road that crosses the entire National Park from East to West, making stops at the bird observatory, the streams that cross the road, the interpretive stops along the way, and walking where we detect good bird activity. We can get to a lookout in an environment of palmetto and rosewood where we have chances to see some of the toucans associated with palmettos, such as the Saffron Toucanet or the Spot-billed Toucanet.
Although Road 101 is open to vehicles, traffic is very sporadic. Birders can set the start time without restrictions and start as early as they wish.
This 64,000 ha Park, 50 km from Puerto Bemberg along paved routes, has a slightly different jungle, with large sectors dominated by bamboo, where we can look for bamboo specialist birds.
There are two jungle trails of 3.6 and 2.4 km long, enough to walk one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
On the banks of the Uruzú River, there are good chances of seeing: Black-fronted Piping-Guans, Sharp-tailed Streamcreepers, and Riverbank Warblers.
