Round Trip Uruguay

Uruguay is a small country with many birds (480 species recorded, with 2-3 new additions, on average, each year). This country is home to almost 50% of the species found in Argentina and 25% of those found in Brazil, in an area that is 15 and 48 times smaller, respectively.

Thanks to the excellent road network, most corners of the country can be reached in a few hours. This means less time in the car and more time birding. The possibility of visiting many habitats in just a few hours usually produces extensive species lists (more than 120 in a day).

Throughout our itineraries, we stay at carefully selected lodgings that reflect the authenticity, comfort, and natural richness of each region.

Each place has been chosen not only for its quality of service but also for its connection with the landscapes and communities that make birding in Uruguay a unique experience.

SANTA CANDIDA PALACE RANCH
Concepcion del Uruguay,  Entre Rios, Argentina

The Santa Cándida Palace is located south of Concepción del Uruguay, on the banks of the La China stream. Founded in 1847 by General Urquiza, this palace is a testament to the splendor of the 19th century.
General Urquiza named it Santa Cándida in honor of his mother, Cándida García.

The sumptuous mansion, a palace built by the Italian architect Pedro Fossatti in the style of a Tuscan villa, owes its current appearance to Antonio Leloir and Adela Unzué, who renovated it along with the architect Ángel Gallardo and the Swiss landscape designer Emil Bruder.

Rafael Tosi grew up in southwestern Uruguay. His interest in birds led to a master’s degree in zoology, studying the interactions between cowbirds and horneros.

Rafael subsequently worked on several research projects and environmental impact assessments, spending long field hours studying Uruguayan wildlife.  He now lives in the city of Colonia del Sacramento,

FARRAPOS NATIONAL PARK
